Every foundry and extrusion plant with its own melting furnace generates dross — and most sell it to scrap dealers for a fraction of the metal's value, even though typical hot dross still holds around 40% aluminium. This machine reverses that trade: it recovers more than 85% of the aluminum locked in the dross and returns it straight to your own furnace.

The process is fast but has one hard condition: dross must be treated hot, straight from the furnace, at 700–800°C. Hot dross is loaded into the pot by forklift or chain hoist (the smaller version uses an electric lift), a stirring paddle works the charge with a deslag flux agent, and the liquid aluminium separates and runs down a launder into a collection pot. One cycle takes about 15 minutes. The residue then goes through water cooling, an iron-ball mill and screening into three size grades — the fines return to remelt or are sold as a clean, graded material instead of raw dross.

Three charge sizes are available: 200, 400 and 600 kg of dross per cycle. To be honest about the limits: above 600 kg per cycle this design stops making sense and a rotary furnace is the right tool — we supply those too. Budget for wearing parts (stirring paddles, aluminium liquid pots, the launder) and plan for dust extraction; the dust collection add-on is optional on paper, but for continuous operation we simply recommend it.

The payback maths could not be simpler: put your monthly dross tonnage, the price the scrap dealer pays you and the price of the aluminium you buy in side by side. Send us those three numbers and we will return the calculation and the right machine size.

Applications

Aluminium foundries, extrusion plants with in-house remelt, and scrap recyclers — anywhere dross is generated regularly when cleaning melting furnaces.

Who it is for

Plants currently selling dross to scrap dealers who want to keep that metal in-house; recyclers building the full chain: scrap and dross → remelt → billet.

FAQ

How much does an aluminium dross recovery machine cost?

Indicatively €15–40k EXW depending on charge size (200–600 kg), loading method and whether you take the full set with cooling, milling and dust collection. The range is public — for an exact quote, tell us how much dross you produce per month.

Is it worth it at my dross volumes?

Scrap dealers pay pennies for dross that still contains around 40% aluminium; recovered metal goes back into your furnace at full value. With regular furnace cleaning, even a few hundred kilograms of dross per day puts payback in months, not years. Send your monthly dross tonnage and we will run the numbers openly.

Can it process cold, stockpiled dross?

No — this design works on hot dross straight from the furnace at 700–800°C. For cold, stockpiled dross the manufacturer offers a separate fully automatic line; if you have a heap to clear, ask about both machines.

What about CE?

The factory-standard machine needs EU conformity work — hot-zone guarding, extraction, safety circuits, documentation. We do not promise 'CE included': we describe the retrofit scope and state plainly who formally bears conformity responsibility in your purchase setup.
