Every extruder learns this the hard way once: loading a cold die ruins the front end of the profile, thermally shocks the tool and stops the press. Dies belong in a dedicated oven, preheated close to extrusion temperature (roughly 420–480°C) and held ready — so a die change takes minutes, and the press keeps earning.

This is a drawer-type cabinet oven: heating chambers with sliding trolleys of 1000 × 630 × 400 mm, so dies roll in and out instead of being wrestled with tongs. Heating is electric, using infrared elements — 15 kW per chamber, about 32 kW total — with two 1.1 kW circulation fans and multi-zone thermocouples that keep the temperature even across the chamber, so the die is soaked through rather than hot on one face. Heat-up from cold takes around 90 minutes, comfortably under two hours.

Capacity is sized to the press: a chamber holds 6–12 dies for a 1000-tonne press, 6–8 for 1400–1800 t, and 4 for 2000 t — bigger dies simply take more room. A pit-type version with top loading is available where that suits the die shop layout better. The oven runs on aluminum extrusion dies of any standard diameter within the trolley envelope.

Two honest notes. First, this is a heating oven, not a nitriding furnace — restoring the nitrided layer on H13 dies needs a separate die nitriding furnace, which we also supply. Second, it is a mechanically simple machine, and it should be priced like one — hence the published range. Most customers add it to a press or line shipment, which makes its share of the freight cost effectively zero.

FAQ

How much does a die heating oven cost?

Indicatively €6–16k EXW depending on chamber count and press-tonnage sizing. It is one of the cheapest items in an extrusion plant — send your die diameters for an exact quote, and if you order it with a press it ships in the same container.

Can I nitride dies in this oven?

No. This oven preheats dies for extrusion (up to about 500°C, air atmosphere). Renewing the nitrided working layer requires a separate gas nitriding furnace — we supply that too, and the two are often ordered together.

How do I size the oven?

Rule of thumb: it should hold at least one shift's worth of dies plus a reserve. Send us your press tonnage, die diameters and the number of die changes per shift — we will select the chamber count and layout (drawer or pit type).
