The single billet furnace heats one aluminium billet at a time to extrusion temperature and hot-shears it to press length with ±1 mm accuracy. One number explains why it exists: 25–30 minutes from cold start to the first heated billet, against 2–4 hours for a multi-log furnace. That difference rewrites the economics of any press that does not run around the clock.
If your press works one or two shifts with gaps in between, a multi-log furnace spends a good part of the day heating air or waiting to be filled. The single-billet furnace is lit when there is an order and shut down when there is not. It also suits plants that switch materials often: changing alloy or billet diameter never leaves you with a chamber full of logs in yesterday's grade — you heat exactly the billet that goes to the press next.
The shear works on a 100–110 second cycle per cut from a 1-metre billet, which matches the pace of small and mid-tonnage presses. Firing is by natural gas, LPG or diesel, with exhaust-air recirculation to recover heat. The shear comes in horizontal or vertical arrangement; a hot-saw version with chip collection is available for hard alloys.
To be honest about the trade-off: for continuous, high-volume production the multi-log furnace wins — it carries a buffer of heated material and burns less fuel per tonne. The single-billet furnace is the machine for short runs, variable billets and a lower entry cost; it is also clearly cheaper to buy. Single-billet: ready in 25–30 minutes, no losses on downtime or alloy changes, lower price.
