The photovoltaics boom has created its own press class: 1400–1600-tonne machines for 6-inch (152 mm) billet, optimised for long runs of PV panel frames and mounting-structure profiles. These are simple sections produced in huge volumes — so what matters is not peak tonnage but cycle tempo and energy cost per tonne of profile.

This press is engineered for exactly that duty: a 16-second dead cycle (shorter than our 1000-tonne machine), stepless extrusion speed from 0 to 16 mm/s and a drive built on two 110–132 kW motors. In the VFD or servo version, energy consumption drops 15–20% against a conventional drive — on three-shift frame production that difference shows up on the monthly power bill, not just in the sales pitch.

The frame is pre-stressed, with 245–255 mm tie rods and a 600–650 mm thick front platen; the main cylinder is 870 mm in diameter, container and stem are H13 tool steel, and total installed power is 325–350 kW. The 152 × 780–800 mm billet also covers window systems and lighter industrial profiles, so the press is not locked into a single market.

Both tonnages — 1400 and 1600 — share the same frame and differ in hydraulics and drive power, which is why we present them on one page. For typical PV frames in 6xxx alloys, 1400 tonnes is enough; the 1600-tonne version adds headroom for harder alloys and the larger sections of ground-mount structures. The factory-standard press requires EU conformity work on guarding and safety circuits — we state that process and its cost openly in the offer. 1400 or 1600 tonnes — which should I choose?

VFD or servo drive?

Both save 15–20% of energy against a conventional drive. Servo costs more upfront but holds extrusion speed more precisely and handles stop-start operation better; VFD is the lower entry point. On three-shift frame production the power-bill difference pays back the premium faster than you would expect.
